Call Congress Now! Party Builder March 14 2008

Archive Party eBuilders

With this issue we are switching to a weekly schedule.

Our aim is to consolidate the communications you get from the national office into one weekly format, and to keep our focus on the activity and work of the clubs.

The party-builder will not add to your “to do” list – rather, it aims to keep you up to date on our political focus -- the elections – and provide food for thought with articles on the experience, what works and what doesn’t, of the Party organization, especially the clubs.

In this Issue:

Call Congress! Stop Anti-immigrant Legislation
Take ActionCall your congressperson now and demand they vote no on the anti-immigrant "SAVE" act. You can reach your congressperson by calling the congressional switchboard (202-225-3121).

The republicans in congress are working fast to force a vote on the anti-immigrant legislation "SAVE" act (HR 4088). Among other things, this bill would further militarize our border, build more internment-camp style immigrant detention centers, and cost millions of workers their jobs. Read more about it here.

Club Conference Guidelines
Although some clubs have already held their club conference, we thought the attached guidelines, developed by the Northern California district, would be helpful. You can view them here.

New PWW Subscribers
In January, a club sent the following letter to a group of friends, co-workers and political:

“Dear friends, Enclosed is a copy of the People’s Weekly World. For the next four weeks, I’d like to send you a complimentary copy of the paper.

“Here’s why: The PWW is unique publication that covers all kinds of news you won’t hear about anywhere else.

“The demonstrations against the Iraq war that took place all over the country on October 27th didn’t rate a mention in the Times, but they were front-page news for the PWW.

“Coverage of the elections is everywhere – but to get underneath the hype and personality contest, to read about the issues that matter to people and will send them to the polls, you’ll need the PWW. This will be a big priority for the paper’s staff – despite being a small operation, they had two reporters at the history-making Iowa caucuses!

“To hear about the biggest news – the massive effort that the labor and other movements are gearing up for to have their say in our country’s direction, you’ll need the PWW.”

A follow-up letter and sub blank were enclosed with the last issue mailed, and then calls were made to the list. Already four people have asked for a sub. The club plans to continue doing this on an ongoing basis – 4 weeks of free copies, then follow up. The papers and mailing were paid for with dues money.
