Proposed Resolution: For engagement with TPP and other trade pacts

BY: John Case| June 12, 2014

Submitted by John Case, West Virginia

WHEREAS

globalization and trade are objective forces shaping the emergence of a global market in goods, services, labor, and production;

WHEREAS

global corporations operate virtually without international regulation or supervision in the global economy, playing off competing nations laws and customs against each other to avoid regulation by single countries, even the US,  and are not held accountable for the negative effects of their operations.

WHEREAS

the negotiations for these agreements are being carried out secretly and undemocratically with major corporations having a privileged role in developing them, while workers, farmers and other important sectors of society are excluded.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the CPUSA affirms full engagement with workers and democratic forces of all trading countries to demand participation in trade negotiations at the highest levels on concerns common to workers of all nations.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the CPUSA supports the creation of global regulatory bodies, including worker representation, to redress the inequalities, environmental, democratic and labor rights offenses created by unregulated trade.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the CPUSA endorse adding sanction authority and a seat on the UN Security Council for the International Labor Organization, to enforce the UN declaration on human and workers rights in all trade agreements.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the CPUSA endorse a US industrial policy that insures that whatever national economic gains are derived from trade are adequately invested in building a competitive, progressive, higher-wage 21st century US economy.

FINALLY, BE IT RESOLVED

that party districts, clubs and members actively strive to implement this resolution.
