Our first meeting in Athens, Ohio was a complete success. In attendance were 12 grad students, two professors, one worker and labor union member from the post office, and Anita Waters, the club organizer for Columbus. A brief history of CPUSA was given as well as recognition of 100 years since the Russian Revolution. 10 of the 12 students in attendance were international students who brought different leftist perspectives from around the world: namely from Africa and Latin America. Strategy for recruitment and a bake sale table with literature was discussed to which we arrived at the conclusion that it shall be called “CCC”- “Christmas Cookies for Communism”. This will be a good way to recruit and raise money for the club while handing out literature written by Rick Nagin, the Ohio district organizer. We are officially recognized as a student organization under the “code name” of “Club Frida Kahlo: Marxists, Indigenists and Feminists of Athens”. We are working to build socialism on the Ohio University campus as well as in and around Athens County, Ohio.
