Conneticut Communist Party in action

Conneticut Communist Party in action

Here in Connecticut it’s been a busy and exciting time. After returning from the national convention in Chicago this June, we spent the summer registering voters, going door to door in our club neighborhoods, hosting People’s World voter registration tables at neighborhood parks and super markets, and getting out the word about what has been won for jobs and workers rights and youth in the past four years. Picnics, a club house party and a Friday Night People’s World Film and Discussion Series gave a chance to introduce new friends to our movement.

Meanwhile, we organized 54 people to march with the Communist Party / YCL contingent in the People’s Climate
March and participated in statewide organizing with labor, religious, peace and environment groups. On October 24 the Peoples Center was honored by the New Haven Board of Alders Black and Hispanic Caucus with a big turnout of youth, union, peace and immigrant groups. We’ve been part of the Labor 2014 get out the vote program and other election campaign work in key cities.

We are now getting ready for the annual People’s World Amistad Awards honoring three allies to be held at a local high school on December 7.

Joelle Fishman chairs the Connecticut Communist Party USA. She is a Commissioner on the City of New Haven Peace Commission, serves on the executive board of the Alliance of Retired Americans in Connecticut and is an active member of many economic rights and social justice organizations. She was a candidate for Congress from 1973 to 1982, maintaining minor-party ballot status for the Communist Party in Connecticut's Third Congressional District. As chair of the CPUSA Political Action Commission, she has played an active role in the broad labor and people's alliance that defeated the ultra-right in the 2008 elections and continues to mobilize for health care, worker rights and peace.
