The Young Communist League USA issued this statement on Friday, Dec. 20 on the occasion of the Cuban people’s demonstration against the blockade in front of the U.S. embassy in Havana.
We write to you from the heart of U.S. imperialism, a system that poses great challenges to the Cuban people and their revolution, yet cannot erase their resilience and strength. Across our country, more and more young people are awakening to the harsh realities of capitalism and imperialism, and many are drawing inspiration from Cuba’s revolutionary achievements. Your successes in universal healthcare, education, and creating a society that prioritizes human needs over profit reminds us that a better world is possible.
For young Americans disillusioned with an economy built for war and profits, and a system rooted in racism, sexism, and exploitation, Cuba represents an alternative path. We pledge to mobilize the masses of anti-imperialist youth to demand an immediate end to the blockade and Cuba’s removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list.
At a time when our government funds violence and war abroad while neglecting public services at home, it is clear who the real sponsors of terror are. Cuba, by contrast, has shown the world what peace and justice can look like, even under immense pressure.
To our Cuban comrades, we stand with you in solidarity. Together, we will fight to end the genocidal blockade and foster peaceful, cooperative relations among all nations.
