Why is capitalism incompatible with sustainability?

April 30, 2016

The capitalist economic system is based on infinite expansion of production. But the earth and its resources are finite. So capitalism will reproduce environmental problems as long as it is in existence. Real long-term solutions require socialism, an environmentally-conscious socialism which takes the needs of the environment into account along with democratic control of the economy and economic decision-making.

To build a better world, we must have a plentiful world to build on. We can’t have a healthy humanity without a healthy natural world, and that requires a healthy respect for the limitations required to reproduce the natural world on which we depend.
