UAW President Shawn Fain was the latest to popularize the idea of a general strike when calling for unions to coordinate contract negotiations for May Day of 2028. But at the rate things are going with Trump and MAGA it’s not even clear we’ll have unions to negotiate with — they’re coming at the labor movement hard and fast. And while labor is beginning to step up its fight against Trump, we’re still far away from where the movement as a whole is being actively involved in combating big business’ far right offensive.
In this situation some within Resistance 2.0 are calling for a general strike. But is that a realistic option in the current situation? In addition what would be the demands? And if unions are not calling for such actions themselves, where does that leave the anti-MAGA movement?
