What is the role of the state in capitalist society? How has it changed over the course of the last century? Does it only exist as a coercive apparatus or does it also function as a legitimizing construct managing consent? In what ways does the growth of government bureaucracy affect these issues if any? What are the implications for politics and the state as an arena of democratic struggle? Can the working-class and democratic movement wrest power from big business by degree or are government institutions so corrupt and degraded that they are incapable of transformation? What about the potential of a peaceful path to socialism and the source of violence in most revolutions?
These questions and more will be addressed in an upcoming webinar entitled “An Examination of the Marxist Theory of the State.” The webinar will be led by Marc Brodine, a member of the National Board of the Communist Party. The webinar will take place on Saturday July 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM EDT. Please register for the webinar here.
