Bring brother Kilmar Abrego Garcia home now!

We, the Building Trades Subcommittee of the CPUSA Labor Commission, join in solidarity with our fellow workers in the AFL-CIO and North America’s Building Trades Unions, and all working people, to demand the immediate release and return of brother Abrego Garcia from his illegal imprisonment in El Salvador.

By trying to condemn a legal resident who committed no crime to a short life of torture, Trump has shown the whole world that this was never about the “rule of law.” Every builder — whether you are in a union or working in a still open shop — can see who stands with us and who plots against us.

We emphasize that brother Abrego Garcia is a hard-working husband, father, and sheetmetal apprentice member of SMART Local 100. He has the legal right to live and work in this country, as determined by U.S. courts. Brother Garcia deserves a public apology and appropriate restitution for the crimes committed against him.

Know this — corporate-controlled politicians in Congress and the White House may hide behind the phantom of the “rule of law,” but the demands of our unions have teeth. Many of us are immigrants, the children of immigrants, and the spouses of immigrants, and this country is built from our blood, sweat, and tears. We are organized, we are building our forces, and we will resist.

Every crime the Trump administration and its corporate masters commit against working people must be answered by more and more workers becoming organized into unions so that we can all fight together and win the struggle for justice.
