Organize to beat back U.S. imperialism

Organize to beat back U.S. imperialism

The following report was given to the CPUSA National Committee on July 13, 2025 on behalf of the party’s Peace and Solidarity Commission. More NC reports here.

The Peace & Solidarity Commission (PSC) engages in a number of projects that elucidate the anti-imperialist position of the party, writes on them for People’s World and CPUSA.org, and recommends actions for party collectives to take. It is our responsibility to make imperialism’s policies clear to ourselves and the public and use our collective working class creativity and energy to beat back imperialism. Congress passed, and Trump signed off on, the largest military budget in history, well over $1 trillion. Trump is demanding NATO countries spend 5% of their GDP on weapons. The winners are the merchants of death. Everyone else loses.

Peace conference 2025

The main project for 2025 is organizing the online peace conference on Saturday, Nov. 8. We want to produce a document with a vision, strategy, and peace program. Along with this, we are working with People’s World on a webinar scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 6. The webinar will feature leaders of mass organizations addressing the central issues of the peace conference to be held two days later.

Imperialism pamphlet

The imperialism pamphlet is now entering its second printing. The PSC, International Department (ID), and CPUSA National Board are beginning to work on a second edition, which will include the Trump 2.0 policies.

Middle East

The PSC, along with the ID, has drafted party statements condemning Israel’s genocidal war on Palestinians and on the totally illegal bombing of Iran. We made clear that this latest aggression had nothing to do with Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program, or even its legal development of nuclear power and nuclear medicine. It had everything to do with the long term goal of the U.S. ruling class — in place since the Iranian revolution of 1979 — of overthrowing the legal and internationally recognized government of Iran, to be replaced with a regime subservient to the imperialist foreign policy demands of the U.S. ruling class. So far, that goal has not been achieved, but it will continue to be pursued.

The Americas, Latin America

The party participates in the National Network on Cuba with other peace organizations.

With regard to Cuba Solidarity, the PSC has a committee dedicated to the Americas that is now focusing on producing a toolkit to help party collectives and members participate. We also invited Rob Schwartz to one of our meetings. Schwartz is the executive director of Global Health Partners, which has been sending material aid to Cuba for many decades, and our party has worked with him before. We are looking at collaborating to raise funds through the party that would purchase desperately needed cardiac pacemakers the U.S. is preventing Cuba from buying and that Global Health Partners would ship to the island.

Ukraine

This war that devastates Ukraine and Russia continues, egged on by the U.S. and its NATO allies. We never bought the idea that Trump intended to arrange a peaceful solution, nor the idea that the U.S. played no role in driving the countries to war. Now Trump is sending more weapons. Pressing the war to continue is not a working class position. International working class solidarity and our responsibility as Communists requires us to demand that the war end through negotiations and that the U.S. and NATO end their grip on Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Asia Pacific Subcommittee

The PSC’s Asia Pacific Subcommittee is focusing on a project to connect U.S. anti-China foreign policy with rising racism and harassment targeting Chinese and Asian Americans. We published an article in People’s World entitled, “U.S. imperialism’s new Cold War against China fosters anti-Asian racism at home” which was picked up by two other media outlets. CPUSA co-sponsored a webinar with Code Pink entitled “Manufacturing Enemies” on the same topic. Currently the Subcommittee is researching racist alien land laws.
