The Queens Club of the Communist Party USA unequivocally denounces the racist smears against our community by the New York Post and echoed by bigot-billionaire Elon Musk. Amid an avalanche of GOP lies regarding immigrants, these right-wing bigots have turned their sights on the New York Borough of Queens, which is not only the most diverse urban area in the world, but if it were a city on its own, would be the fourth most populated in the United States.

Queens is a borough that celebrates and cherishes our diversity, be it linguistic, national, racial, gender, or sexual. More than half of our neighbors were born outside of the United States but now call Queens home. We are a fiercely working class borough, operating the 6th and 19th busiest airports and the busiest railroad junction in the country. Our economic power is massive — if we were a country, we would have the 69th largest GDP in the world. This is all thanks to our diverse working class.

The working families of Queens produce massive value for New York, the United States, and the entire world. Yet, with a median income of less than $40,000, we struggle to afford quality housing, mass transit, utilities, and childcare. The city and state of New York sees fit to slash budgets in favor of shelling out billions to the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the billionaire developers they serve. The wealthy and powerful attempt to divide the New York community by scaremongering about immigration in the hopes this will distract us from the rank corruption of the Adams administration and the NYPD, who themselves cannot account for tens of millions of federal money meant for asylum seekers while enriching themselves on contract kickbacks.

Queens is proof positive that workers from diverse backgrounds can thrive when working together and living next to one another. The racist attacks on our immigrant population fall on deaf ears locally, but remind us that the global nature of Queens – where no one ethnicity, race, or national background holds a majority – represents the greatest nightmare of MAGA forces. Queens Club will be in the streets from now until election day, and beyond, to protect our neighborhoods from the extreme right.
