The Communist Party USA Labor Commission salutes the Greek working class and the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) in their powerful April 9 general strike and struggle against capitalist exploitation and oppression. Greek workers are fighting back against brutal EU-imposed austerity, collapsing wages, and a cost-of-living crisis engineered to enrich corporations while impoverishing working families.
We fully support the just demands of Greece’s labor movement: immediate wage increases to combat inflation, strong collective bargaining rights to defend workers’ rights, and action to stop corporate profiteering on basic necessities. The fight for affordable housing, universal healthcare, and fully funded public education is our fight too — these are the battlegrounds where workers internationally confront the same system of exploitation.
The CPUSA Labor Commission calls on U.S. workers to stand with our Greek fellow workers and join them in opposing the capitalist attacks on living standards, and to build the kind of militant, class-struggle unionism that PAME demonstrates. Their fight is our fight — international working-class solidarity will defeat capitalism’s war on workers everywhere. Onwards to May Day!
