Starting in late December, the Iranian people have been carrying out protest demonstrations against the backward policies of the theocratic regime of that country. The Communist Party USA expresses its heartfelt solidarity with the struggles of the Iranian workers, youth and masses.
The grievances of the Iranian working class and its allies are several. They include the declining economic standard of living, political corruption and also the severe violations of labor and human rights by the people in power in Tehran.
The protests have led to severe repression by the authorities, including at least 22 fatalities and mass arrests of up to 3,700 people and counting.
The Communist Party USA stands with the Iranian people in support of the following demands:
- An end to repression of people who are demonstrating for their just demands.
- The government must reveal the names of all who have been arrested and the places in which they are being held prisoner. All prisoners should be transferred to official detention centers, if they are not immediately released.
- Full rights to legal representation and due process for all the arrestees.
- An end to the use of torture and the release of all prisoners.
- The removal of security forces, including military personnel, from the university campuses.
- An end to anti-worker policies of privatization, austerity and unemployment and to corruption.
