When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 I was very lucky to have excellent insurance and an employer who allowed me to take time off for surgery and treatments. The bills ran into the tens of thousands and then hundreds of thousands covered by insurance. Even so, I maxed out my credit cards for over $5000 of additional expenses. What do others do? According to the National Cancer Institute, in 2018, an estimated 1,735,350 new cases of cancer diagnosed in the United States and 609,640 people will die from the disease. We need healthcare for everyone now!
