This discussion challenges sectarian concepts of the party’s leading role arguing that for Lenin, the concept of working-class leadership is inseparable from building alliances and the united front.
The leading role of the working class is achieved by placing its “stamp” or imprint on struggle by means of building alliances. This “stamp” includes advancing both immediate bread-and-butter issues and socialist ideology as part of a single process.
The tension between doing both is explored. It’s argued further that there’s a straight line between the thinking of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Gramsci on the subject, each providing unique insights.
