The capitalist class, Marx and Engels tell us, faces a fundamental challenge: keeping workers apart while being forced to bring us together. They were writing about the factory system, but they could have been describing a newer capitalist technology — social media platforms, which enable unprecedented connections between people even as they reward individualistic and competitive behavior.
So is social media a space for organizing? Can we use it to foster “revolutionary combination” rather than competition? And how do we respond when the ruling class tries to intimidate and silence left voices online?
Join us for a discussion of social media in socialist struggle. We also sit down with Marc Brodine about his new book, Red Answers — now available from International Publishers.
