This resolution was created by mergeing two similar resolutions from the CPUSA International Department and Richard Grassl

WHEREAS

on January 1, 1959, the Cuban Revolution triumphed and the Cuban people embarked on the creation of the first socialist state in the Western Hemisphere, and

WHEREAS

since that time, socialist Cuba has continued to build a socialist state based on human solidarity and social justice for workers, and

WHEREAS

Revolutionary Cuba has lent its disinterested solidarity to struggling workers and others throughout the world, contributing massively to the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa and providing vital medical, educational and other assistance to poorer countries worldwide, and

WHEREAS

Revolutionary Cuba has always extended a comradely hand to working people in the United States and has never committed a single act harmful to the American people, and

WHEREAS

Successive U.S. administrations have done everything in their power to undermine the Cuban Revolution and restore exploitative capitalism to Cuba,

WHEREAS

Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzales, known as the Cuban 5, were in Miami collecting information on probable illegal and terroristic actions against Cuba by private persons in South Florida, which information was passed on to the FBI by Cuba, and

WHEREAS

The Cuban Five were sentenced to unprecedentedly draconian prison sentences, including periods in solitary confinement and denial of visits by spouses, after a biased trial in Miami during which it has been revealed that the federal government made payments to local media, very likely in exchange for prejudicial coverage of the trial, and

WHEREAS

avery large number of respected organizations and individuals in the United States and internationally have called for the release of the Cuban Five, including Amnesty International, the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), the San Francisco Labor Council, eight Nobel Prize winners and many others,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA salutes the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people for their work in advancement of humanity, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th  National Convention of the Communist Party USA deplores the hostile attitude and actions of U.S. administrations and various political groups in the United States toward Cuba, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA rejects the continued listing of Cuba as a “state sponsor of terrorism” and calls for the elimination of said designation, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA. calls for a complete and comprehensive change in U.S. Cuba policy, with an end to the economic blockade, travel restrictions and interference in Cuba’s internal affairs, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA expresses its solidarity with the Cuban Five and their families and demands the immediate liberation of the three remaining unjustly imprisoned members of the group, namely Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, and Ramon Labañino, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that the 30th National Convention of the Communist Party USA calls upon both Houses of the United States Congress to pass legislation ending the Cuba blockade and travel restrictions, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED

that a copy of this resolution be sent to President Barack Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and Attorney General Eric Holder and to the press and media, and

FINALLY, BE IT RESOLVED

that party clubs, districts and members actively strive to implement this resolution.
