The Communist Party USA unequivocally condemns the recent deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and U.S. military personnel to Israel.

Israel’s campaign of genocide has already expanded from Gaza to Lebanon with the full backing of the U.S. government, and the emerging detachment of U.S. troops to Israel marks a further escalation of the rapidly unfolding regional war. U.S. military leadership has indicated it intends to station up to 3,000 soldiers in Israel in the coming weeks in support of the Netanyahu government’s plans for wanton retaliation against Iran, raising the already dire risk of global conflict.

The excuses offered by the U.S. State Department, that these troops are intended to “keep the peace” as they aid the genocide in Gaza, or to “contain the war” that has since spread to Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, continue to fall flat. Rather, the new deployment will embolden the IDF and fascist settlers alike to set their bloody sights even further, threatening the lives of millions in the Middle East.

The Biden administration’s continued sponsorship of the Israeli apartheid government’s fascist war drive is criminal in both domestic and international law. The CPUSA opposes any measure to increase U.S. military presence in the region, and we stand with the people of the Middle East and comrades around the world in the struggle for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Stop the genocide; ceasefire now! End all arms shipments and deployments to Israel!
