As the Communist Party USA continues its journey through a pivotal era, it is imperative to recognize our role not merely as an oppositional force but as a vanguard of the next logical stage in U.S.’s historical trajectory. A vision of Socialism with American Characteristics is not a distant dream; it is an imminent reality, emerging from the evolving economic and social conditions of our time. In this crucial phase, the CPUSA must position itself as a ‘government in waiting, ready to steer the nation through this transformative period.

To achieve this, our focus must shift from reactive opposition to proactive assembly of the various forces advocating socialism in the United States. This involves building a broad mass base, integrating our efforts with the labor movement and other progressive community movements that form the bedrock of change. It’s about cultivating a coalition that reflects the diverse fabric of our society, one that resonates with the working class, intellectuals, and all who envision a more equitable future.

In parallel, the CPUSA should work towards unifying individuals and collectives who already align with our vision. This isn’t about homogenizing diverse perspectives but rather about harmonizing them into a cohesive force capable of advocating effectively for our platform. High-profile supporters and grassroots activists alike are crucial in this endeavor, each bringing unique strengths and insights to our collective mission.

Furthermore, our strategy must include robust efforts to engage in multilateral cooperation with organizations and parties advocating for socialism. It would be a destructive mistake to see other parties and organizations as competitors in a zero-sum marketplace. While we have different perspectives which make different organizational structures, there are multiple niches which can be filled across a diverse ecosystem of organizations which can cooperate when possible towards common aims. The Communist Party, when praxis is effective, will function as the nucleus of this collective. By leveraging the strength of the “Communist Plus,” we can guide these alliances towards a revolutionary transition to socialism. This collaborative approach is essential, as the journey towards socialism in the U.S. will be shaped by a diverse array of voices and experiences.

As we build this “government in waiting,” it’s essential to develop a concrete policy program alongside a strategic plan for state transition. This program must be more than a set of ideals; it should be a tangible, actionable blueprint that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of our nation. Our plan should cover economic restructuring, social justice, environmental sustainability, and democratic renewal, ensuring that the transition to socialism is smooth, inclusive, and reflective of American values.

In this process, we must view socialism not as an abstract concept but as a tangible reality taking shape around us. The signs are evident in the growing discontent with inequality, the increasing automation of labor, and the socialization and consolidation of the means of production. The hour of socialism is not in the distant future; it is upon us, and the CPUSA must be ready to lead the charge.

In conclusion, the CPUSA’s role in this historic juncture is clear. We must not be just a party of protest but a party of progress, a party preparing to govern. By building a broad-based coalition, aligning with like-minded groups, and developing a practical policy program, we position ourselves at the forefront of the U.S. transition to socialism. The time has come to move beyond envisioning a socialist America to actively shaping it. As a “government in waiting,” the CPUSA is ready to turn this vision into reality, guiding the nation towards a new chapter of prosperity, justice, and equality for all.
