The Boston Club of the Communist Party USA strongly condemns the cowardly actions of members of the so-called “Patriot Front” in our community on July 2, 2022. This was an unacceptable invasion of our community, with participants having been shipped in from states as far away as Texas. These people do not represent Boston or the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Wearing masks, sunglasses, and caps to conceal their identities on their march, members of the white supremacist, neo-Nazi group paraded through downtown Boston and parts of the Freedom Trail, in a sneak attack that was concealed from authorities to evade any public accountability. They proceeded to viciously attack a Black man, who was drastically outnumbered by them.

These cowardly acts are reminiscent of the January 6 attack on the Capitol, where hate groups, militias, and other extremists united to thwart democracy. Since then, New England has seen an increase in the activity of white supremacist groups including the Patriot Front, and we will not stand idly by while they attempt to spread their heinous ideology.

We call for the identification and full prosecution of the assailants of activist and artist Charles Murrell. Further, we join with others in our community calling for the convening of a race commission by Mayor Michelle Wu that will implement policies of reparation and reconciliation. Finally, we stand in unwavering solidarity with those most affected by this show of hatred — Black people, people of color, LGBTQ people, and others.

We call on all citizens to vote in mid-term elections and in every election, ousting the extremists who embolden white supremacist groups with their hateful, divisive rhetoric, and replacing them with candidates who do not try to divide us along racial and other lines, but instead vote for the progressive policies the working class needs to move forward.
