Meeting this moment’s ideological challenges

National Marxist Education Commission report presented by Dee Miles to the CPUSA National Committee meeting of July 11, 2026.

We need you to participate and encourage your club and district members to participate in the schools, class series, and book talks, all of which are designed to help us better understand our work. Inform us of what you, your club, and your district need to support your work, such as club and district classes and schools. Also, let us know who, in your club or district, has the interest or talent to help with educational work as discussion leaders or participants in deeper-dive examinations of the challenges we face. You can reach us at dee@cpusa.org; please feel encouraged to let us know what you, your club, and your district need and want.

Goals: Our goals are to upgrade our training in response to the fierce ideological challenges of the moment and deepen our understanding of the role we play as a Party in contributing to the U.S. working class’s ability to fight for its quality of life and advance the battle for real democracy.

Recent activities: In 2026, the National Education Commission held the National Marxist School Online Part I in January, the Freedom School during African American History Month in February, the Celebration of Earth Day Class Series in April, and the National Marxist School Online Part II in May. We also held two groups of the Leadership Training Collective four-session series on dialectical materialism in March/April and a three-session series on historical materialism in June/July. In addition, we held several public book talks and a movie talk (on Sinners), along with monthly in-house discussion sessions with the Working Class Think Tank. We also curated several artwork collections as experimental projects. Everything needed greater circulation.

Upcoming activities: We have planned public book talks on the class struggle in July, and on Latino history in the U.S. in August. We will have in-house discussions in the Working Class Think Tank in July on the 250th anniversary of the battle for democracy and on AI’s influence in casinos. In September, we will hold a think tank discussion of capital versus capitalism. In the fall, we will hold another series of the Leadership Training Collective classes, more in-house Working Class Think Tank discussion sessions, and a public book talk on growing class consciousness. We have begun preparing for the winter National Marxist School public series of classes.

Conclusion: We need your help to engage more people, both internally and publicly. We ask you to ensure all your club and district members are encouraged to participate in all of the educational activities. We also ask you to share public activities on your social media and throughout your networks.

We need your help to get more people involved as presenters in classes and discussion exchanges. If useful, we can help strengthen their skills. We need your help to improve all aspects of our work. Thank you in advance.
