The Twin Cities Club of the Communist Party USA and the Minnesota Dakotas District of the CPUSA condemn in the strongest terms the unwarranted raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home by Trump’s MAGA administration, as well as the ongoing stream of ridiculous and false accusations against her. This is clearly a targeted attack by a violent and wildly unpopular administration desperate to cling to political power against a duly elected and popular sitting member of Congress, meant to influence the outcome of the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

We recognize this as another push by the racist, fascistic Trump administration and its financial backers to get the American working class to conflate immigrants with fraud. We recognize this as one of the oldest tricks in the capitalist playbook — divide working people along ethnic or national lines, ruthlessly exploit them for profit, force them to fight for scraps, and viciously attack anyone who points a finger at those who are actually and materially responsible for social ills and corruption.

The only “fraud” worth discussing is the systemic larceny that emanates from the Trump family and its powerful, moneyed private backers, who are using machinery of state to plunder public resources and tax monies in order to line their own pockets. Trump being continuously flanked by some of the world’s wealthiest individuals is not an accident or a mistake.

This is a targeted attack on Representative Omar because she:

• Has stood up to Trump’s fascist immigration enforcement, an apparatus designed to kidnap families and deport workers of color.
• Is Somali — Trump has repeatedly targeted Somali people, calling them “garbage” and coordinating attacks against the Somali community in Minnesota. Operation Metro Surge and the racist rhetoric surrounding it have led to mass deportations, families torn apart, and the deaths of Alex Pretti and Nicole Good.
• Is a progressive Democrat — It is no coincidence that this is happening as the midterms draw near: Omar is a popular candidate who opposes Trump and his agenda.
• Opposes funding Israel’s genocide on Palestine while the Trump administration supports it.

The timing speaks for itself. Federal agents searched her home less than a month before the November midterms, despite the Justice Department’s longstanding protocol to avoid overt investigative actions involving candidates within 60 days of an election. The administration has hinted at this investigation for months: Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said there was an “ongoing investigation” into whether Omar lied on immigration forms, and Vice President J.D. Vance has accused her of immigration fraud without evidence. Trump himself brought her up at a Tennessee rally over the weekend, suggesting Vance “and our people” were investigating her.

These are not the actions of a government pursuing “justice.” They are the actions of an administration weaponizing federal power against a political opponent — a Somali-born, Muslim-American congresswoman — in the final weeks of an election.

We stand with Ilhan Omar and her family. We reject this blatant attempt at political intimidation meant to further a fascist right-wing agenda. We call on all people of conscience to do the same.
